Fifteen is a classic fifteen-puzzle game adapted specifically for users of the NVDA screen reader. This add-on provides an accessible gaming environment with keyboard navigation, sound effects, and detailed statistics tracking.

Launching the Game
After installation, you need to assign a key combination to start the game:

Controls
Main Keys:
- Arrow keys: Move between tiles
- Spacebar: Move current tile into empty slot
- N: New game
- P: Pause/Resume
- G: Last game stats
- T: Overall stats
- S: Toggle sounds on/off
- Esc: Exit game
Context Menu:
Press Applications (or Shift + F10) in-game window to access the following menu items:
- New game
- Pause/Resume
- Last game stats
- Overall stats
- Toggle sounds
- Exit
Gameplay
Starting the Game
- On first launch, a demo board appears
- If saved games are found, choose whether to continue or start new
- To begin a new game, press ’N’ or select “New game” from the menu
Game Mechanics
- Objective: Arrange tiles from 1 to 15
- Empty cell (0) used for moving other tiles
- Only adjacent tiles can be moved into the empty cell
- Tracks number of moves and time taken
Pausing
- The game can be paused at any moment
- Upon pausing, the game state is automatically saved
- Pause duration does not count towards total playtime
Saving Games
Auto-save:
- Game auto-saves when paused
- When closing dialogues, you’re prompted to save your progress
- Saved games stored in
Fifteen.json within NVDA’s configuration folder
Loading Games:
On next startup:
- If there’s a saved game, you’ll be asked if you’d like to resume it
- Choose “New game” to clear previous progress
- Completed games remove their saves automatically
Statistics
Tracked Metrics:
- Total number of played games
- Number of moves per game
- Time spent playing each game
- Date and time of completion
- Best result achieved
Viewing Stats:
- Press G to view last game stats
- Press T to see overall stats and best results

Available Sounds:
- Tile selection
- Tile movement
- Reaching field boundaries
- Game start
- Game finish (fanfare)

- Menu opening

Managing Audio:
- Sounds enabled by default
- Press S to toggle audio settings
- Settings persist across sessions

Navigation:
- NVDA announces the tile number upon focus
- Audio cues indicate boundary reach
- Message queue prevents speech overlap
Focus Management:
- Focus remains on active tile during interaction
- After menu actions, focus returns to the tile
- Automatic focus adjustment after making a move
