Tips For Using Jabber With NVDA and This Addon

This section provides tips for performing several common tasks in Jabber while using NVDA and this addon. This is not an exhaustive list of tasks nor a replacement for the Jabber user documentation.

Jabber provides a number of keyboard shortcuts for common tasks, such as answering and managing calls and chat messages. Refer to Appendix A, Jabber Keyboard Shortcuts, for a list. Refer to Appendix B, Useful NVDA Commands, for some useful NVDA commands to use with this application.

By default, Jabber starts calls with video enabled when possible. This feature can be turned off in the Video page in Options. Outgoing video can also be started and stopped manually by activating the Video button within the phone conversation window. The videio button is either labelled "Start my video" or "Stop my video" to indicate the current state of outgoing video. Note that the option and the button mentioned here affect only outgoing video; incoming video will remain active if the other party chooses to send it.

If Tab and Shift+Tab do not move out of a chat history area, use Ctrl+E to move focus to the chat input edit box and then Tab or Shift+Tab from there to other controls.

To check the current date on the Meetings page, use NVDA object navigation to move one object to the right of "Go to the previous day" or one object to the left of "Go to the next day."

To use the calendar obtained by pressing "View the calendar" on the Meetings page, press Tab until focus reaches the button that announces the currently selected date. On this button, use the following keys:

Known Issues

Issues shown in this section may be fixed in future addon and/or application revisions but are not addressed as of this writing.

Several list controls in Jabber are currently not accessible via NVDA because they provide no accessibility information.

To use Combo Boxes in Jabber, first use the up and down Arrow keys to open the closed combo box. After the combo box is open, use the up and down arrow keys to select an item. Use the enter key to save the selected item and escape key to cancel the selection. The combo boxes in Recents and Voicemails are examples of this behaviour.
